Dock Builder in Knoxville

Knoxville is where DOCK&DECK started in 2008, and our office is on Kingston Pike. The city was founded in 1791 and served as Tennessee’s capital in the state’s early years. Fort Loudoun Lake, on the Tennessee River at Knoxville, is the uppermost of the nine TVA reservoirs that form the navigable channel to Paducah, Kentucky. DOCK&DECK builds custom boat docks and shoreline work on Fort Loudoun Lake for Knoxville homeowners, on main-channel and cove lots, plus decks, outdoor living spaces and pools at home.

Building Boat Docks in Knoxville

Knoxville’s lake frontage runs from main-channel lots with steady boat traffic and wake to quiet, wooded coves. On the main channel, we size the pilings, framing and walkway connection to the lot’s exposure and talk through slip orientation before anything is drawn. In a cove, the width and depth of the water off your bank set how far the dock can reach and which way the slips face. Our own crew designs and builds every dock around your lot and how you use the lake. We build boat docks across Knoxville’s Fort Loudoun Lake frontage, including West Knoxville.

TVA Permits for Knoxville Docks

Boat docks and shoreline work on Fort Loudoun Lake, and on Melton Hill Lake, which we also serve, need a TVA Section 26a permit before construction starts. We prepare and submit your TVA permit paperwork at no charge. You pay TVA’s application fee. Some neighborhoods and jurisdictions require their own approval before a dock can be built. It’s the homeowner’s responsibility to know what their subdivision or jurisdiction requires and to let us know, and we’re glad to assist with any additional permits.

Shoreline Stabilization

Wakes from passing boats wear away an unprotected bank a little more every season. We install riprap and river rock shoreline stabilization on Knoxville lots, either with a new dock or on its own for a lot that already has one.

Our Knoxville dock work below is all on Fort Loudoun Lake. It includes a shingle-roof dock with arched openings, sided walls, a lounge deck and jet skis on drive-on ports; a covered dock with a lounge deck and boats on lifts in a wooded cove; and a hip-roof dock with boat slips off a rocky shoreline. Two shoreline projects show riprap curving along a lakefront lot and river rock along a grassy lawn. The Decks & Outdoor Living section shows a gray composite wraparound deck with black metal railings and a covered pavilion with white columns, a stone fireplace and outdoor dining. Knoxville pools are shown separately in the Pools & Hardscapes section.

Questions

Do I need a permit to build a dock in Knoxville?

Yes. Boat docks and shoreline work on Fort Loudoun Lake and Melton Hill Lake need a TVA Section 26a permit before construction starts. We prepare and submit your TVA permit paperwork at no charge. You pay TVA’s application fee.

Can you build on a busy main-channel lot?

Yes. Heavier boat traffic means more wake, so we size pilings, framing and the walkway connection for it, and we talk through slip orientation before anything is drawn.

Do you handle shoreline erosion as well as docks?

Yes. We install riprap and river rock shoreline stabilization, whether it’s part of a new dock project or on its own for a lot that already has a dock.

Do you build decks and pools in Knoxville too?

Yes. Along with boat docks, we build decks and outdoor living spaces, and our pool division, Tennessee Pool & Spa, builds pools.

Do you work on Norris, Douglas or Cherokee Lake?

Yes, for lifts and ports. On those lakes we install mechanical lifts and Wave Armor drive-on ports. Our dock building is centered on Fort Loudoun, Tellico and Watts Bar lakes.
